Rob has 35 years’ experience in coastal engineering, natural hazards, and the effects of climate change on coastal and harbour communities, environments and infrastructure.
Rob is a Programme Leader for NIWA’s Climate, Atmosphere and Natural Hazards Centre, coordinating research and consultancy projects on weather-related and tsunami hazards and associated risks and impacts, along with planning for and adapting to climate change.
Rob has had significant input to central and local government policies and guidance on planning for climate change and sea level rise for coastal areas. Rob was senior author of the NIWA report on the national and regional coastal risk exposure to rising seas released by the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment in late 2015.
Rob attends Hamilton Central Baptist Church, is an advocate for TEAR Fund and was on the organising committee for a climate change forum Clearing the Air in July 2010 organised by the NZ Christian Network and held in Auckland.
