The Marriage and Euthanasia Debate
On behalf of Family First NZ, the NZ Christian Network, Promise Keepers NZ, and Willow Creek Association NZ, we would like to invite you to an important Lunchtime Forum for church leaders.
Tuesday 25 August 2015
12 noon – 3.00 pm
Cost: $40.00 (Koha to cover lunch and expenses)
Life Convention Centre, 110 Montgomerie Rd, Airport Oaks, Auckland (2 minutes from Auckland Airport).
This lunchtime forum will feature two international experts:
Ryan Anderson researches and writes about marriage and religious liberty as the William E. Simon Senior Research Fellow in American Principles and Public Policy. He also focuses on justice and moral principles in economic thought, health care and education, and has expertise in bioethics and natural law theory.
Ryan says, “We must work to restore the constitutional authority of citizens and their elected officials to make marriage policy that reflects the truth about marriage. We the people must explain what marriage is, why marriage matters, and why redefining marriage is bad for society.”
Topic 2: Opposing Euthanasia & Assisted Suicide
Dr Peter Saunders is Campaign Director of the Care Not Killing Alliance, a coalition of over 40 organisations in the UK promoting palliative care and opposing euthanasia, and chair of the European Euthanasia Prevention Coalition.
NZ politicians are about to undertake some debate around euthanasia laws. This topic is also on the lunchtime agenda.
Family First writes, “We have written about cases from around the world where people and organisations have suffered consequences for believing in traditional marriage. You can read our newsletter here. We believe church leaders need to at least be aware of some of the international cases and trends, and also be prepared for any upcoming debate on euthanasia.”
